This beautiful colorful map from the 1950s was never used.

In 1929, The Great Northern Railway began in its Empire Builder service from Chicago to Seattle, a 63 hour journey. The first leg went from Chicago to St. Paul (The Burlington Route) and then from St. Paul to Seattle. The train split in Spokane, one section going up to Seattle and the other going down to Portland.

In 1955, 150 passenger seats under domes were added.

This color lithographed map shows these northern routes, along with several straight west, traveling through Illinois, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska, then heading north through Wyoming, a part of South Dakota, and Montana. One southern route took passengers to Denver, where they transferred to a route going to Galveston, Texas.

This map Is in perfect shape. When unfolded, it measures 32 x 18. Folded, it measures,, 4 x 9 inches.

If you’re a railroad buff or have memories of traveling on the Burlington or Great Northern lines, this would be a beautiful map to display.
