In 1932, Rex Johncox took over a business from a man he worked for and started the Rex Johncox Company . Rex’s son, Keith, took over the business in 1975 and ran it until he died in 2016. Keith had also served as mayor of Onsted for a while. I am thankful for this information that came from Rex’s grandson.
This butter crock was made in 2000 by the Louisville Stoneware Company to commemorate the 68h anniversary of the Rex Johncox Co.. The crock is two-sided. On one side is the typical Rex Jonhcox Co. logo. On the other side, though, is a fancier design with the phrase “Serving You for 68 Years with tan-color roses. It’s the only year this design was used.
What makes this crock even more special is the cobalt rim.
The bottom of the crock states “Made for Rex Johncox” and “For Butter Only.” The N.J.J. initials on the bottom were in memory of Keith’s wife, Norma Jean Johncox..
As you can see from the photos, this stoneware crock is in excellent shape.
The crock measures approximately 5 inches in diameter and stands 3 inches high.
