About the Sportsman’s LodgeEstablished in 1945, the Sportsman’s Lodge is a historic log-cabin landmark featuring a full-service family restaurant, a bustling lounge, a casino with 18 gaming machines, and cabin lodging. We serve hearty, high-quality, family-friendly food to hungry anglers, local regulars, and travelers from all over the world. We are open 7 days a week, and we pride ourselves on a welcoming, down-to-earth atmosphere.
The Role: Kitchen Manager/Head Chef. We need a dependable, hands-on Kitchen Manager to take the reins of our back-of-house operations. This isn't a "clip-on tie" office job; you will lead by example on the line during peak rushes, mentoring staff and ensuring consistent quality. Because Ennis is a tight-knit, rural mountain valley, resourcefulness is key—you must be sharp with inventory tracking and ordering, as food deliveries are not daily or dynamic like they are in a major city.
Key Responsibilities:Hands-on Leadership: Run the line during busy lunch and dinner shifts, maintaining high standards for plate presentation, speed, and execution.Inventory & Cost Control: Manage food ordering, stock rotation, and waste to keep food costs in line while navigating a rural supply chain.Team Development: Recruit, train, schedule, and motivate a tight-knit kitchen crew. Maintain a low-drama, high-accountability environment.Kitchen Standards: Maintain immaculate cleanliness, proper food storage, and strict health department compliance.
What We Are Looking For:3–5+ years of solid experience as a Kitchen Manager, Kitchen Lead, or Sous Chef (independent lodge, resort, or high-volume restaurant experience is a major plus).A rock-solid understanding of kitchen financial mechanics (food cost, labor tracking, inventory).Exceptional grit, problem-solving skills, and a professional, cool-headed demeanor under pressure.A desire to live in a rural, outdoor-centric community and truly participate in the Montana lifestyle.
